Meet FrogSlayer’s Internal
Relations Coordinator, Shelby Stricklin. Shelby was born in Houston
(Spring), moved to Marquez where she grew up until moving to college while
attending Sam Houston State University. She then joined the FrogSlayer team
January of 2017 after graduating from SHSU with her degree in Mass
Communications (emphasis in Public Relations).
After becoming convinced there was no way she was going to find a job in her field in Bryan/College Station, she saw the opening for a communications coordinator at ‘FrogSlayer’ and went for it! Since then, she’s grown and carved her own path here to become FrogSlayer’s first Internal Relations Coordinator.
What led you to Internal Relations?
I was that kid that growing up who wanted to be EVERYTHING and I’d change my mind every single day so, of course, I had a hard time picking when it came time. I evaluated my strengths and chose to major in Mass Communication and that led me to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
During my first week on campus, I decided to attend an on-campus organizations fair and saw a board for “PRSSA” – Public Relations Student Society of America. I was intrigued and decided to listen to the student’s spiel. The student must’ve really known their stuff because they sold me on it in about 5 minutes.
I was so excited that I’d found a career choice where I could use my communication skills to help a business or a cause I believed in. My career choice was re-enforced during my time at SHSU as I continued to work on my knowledge of communication, building relationships, media, and business.
I remember feeling very lucky to graduate and find the communications coordinator position at FrogSlayer and now I truly believe it was where I was meant to be all along. Since beginning my journey here, I discovered my niche and what I truly enjoy working in – employee relations – and now, I get to grow my knowledge and skill base in this every day.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read (leisure books) when I have time. This usually includes historical books, science fiction, novel, etc. I like to consider myself a sort of historical/lore buff because I could read/listen to podcasts and stories about lore, cultures, mythology, and mysteries in history all day long.
Other hobbies: picking on a guitar, travelling, and swimming! I also love playing with my golden retriever pup, Maui and exercising as often as possible.
What’s your favorite part of being an Internal Relations Coordinator?
I would have to say that while I have many things I love about my job, I especially love the fact that I don’t really see this as a “job”. This is my life. I’m a part of something big that believes in creating opportunities for people, and I get to put all my focus on a portion of those “people”. If I can make one person’s day better, then I’ll be as happy as a lark and look forward to doing it again and again.
Where do you see the world of technology in 10 years?
I think current trends will continue to evolve, but these are the things I hope for:
- Renewable energy will be relied on more and more as we progress. It will take longer than 10 years to fully rely on renewable energy for all our resources, but we’ll make a lot of steps towards that direction over the next decade.
- More medical successes – hoping for more and more success in finding cures and treatments for cancers and diseases currently uncurable.
The entire FrogSlayer team benefits from Shelby’s diligent work habits, organization, and passion for our core value of creating life-changing opportunities for our employees. Our firm-wide events, training, and internal programs are successful because of Shelby’s enthusiasm for our culture. “I really love the people I work with. I know this is probably a common thing people to say about their job, but it’s true. I look forward to coming to work each day because I work with bright, kind, funny, and interesting people.”
