Personal Mantra – Don’t worry, the Lord will provide.
Motto – The present is theirs, the future for which I’ve really worked for is mine. – Nikola Tesla
Meet Sergio Avedillo, one of FrogSlayer’s custom software developers who is currently attending Texas A&M University, pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering. Sergio was born in Mexico and lived there until his dad got a job in Laredo as an electronic engineer. Sergio began his college journey at Texas A&M International and transferred to Texas A&M University shortly after. He has plans to graduate next May (2020).
What led you to software development?
There was always technology around when I was little because my dad was an electronic engineer. He was very generous and would let us play with stuff. I definitely had a strong interest in computers since I was little which naturally led me to software. I took my first programming class in college and loved it.
What’s your favorite part of being a developer?
I can work on real world problems, solve them, and see the impact of my work or the results right away. My work is tangible. It also allows me to be creative and use my knowledge, ideas, and skills to find the best solution. I just really like that I can think differently and solve problems that don’t always have obvious answers.
What are your hobbies?
I really enjoy going to the movies, hanging out with friends, playing soccer, reading, and learning new languages. Currently, I’m learning Japanese and I took some Arabic in College. I speak English and Spanish fluently, but I have a bucket list of languages I want to learn! My parents lived in Spain for a little bit so they can also speak Portuguese!
Where do you see the world of technology in 10 years?
I would like to see the world of technology grow towards ergonomic (sensor-based and not so much input) computers. Ideally, one day you won’t have to type on a computer to write what you want to say. Instead, it’ll be interactive and pick up what you’re thinking and what you want it to type. Then, it will have it on the screen for you.
What’s your favorite thing about working at FrogSlayer?
I would have to say the culture. I feel very welcomed here and I’m given the tools to grow professionally and personally. Because of the tools I’m given, I feel like I’m really able to make a difference in my client’s and their user’s lives. It makes me want to provide and deliver (well). I’m not going to work. I’m going to contribute to my team and to my client.
Sergio brings so much to the table with his charisma, contagious smile, and hard-working capabilities. He fit right into his project’s team and we cannot wait to see what his future at FrogSlayer holds! We’re really glad he found his way here.
“I’ve been in College Station since 2012 and I really love the small-town feel. I currently attend St. Mary’s Catholic Church and that’s where I met Russell Pier. Russell was and still is a software developer at FrogSlayer. As we learned more about each other, he told me all about FrogSlayer and led me here. Between St. Mary’s, FrogSlayer, and College Station, I truly feel I am part of a tight-knit community I haven’t ever found anywhere else.”
