Meet Kirthan Vasudevan – FrogSlayer’s lead UI/UX Designer – originally from Mumbai, India. Kirthan came to Texas with an undergrad degree in Computer Science in 2015 to obtain his master’s in Information Systems at Texas A&M University. Kirthan is a self-taught designer with many skills and experiences. He began working at FrogSlayer in July of 2017.
What led you to becoming a UI/UX Designer?
It’s kind of a long story: I was interested in computers from the time I was 7 years old, when my parents bought me my first computer. I slowly started helping my parents with basic data management by managing accounts of their restaurant business. My interests led me to pursue my undergrad in computer science. I then took up a job as a project engineer (interface designer) with a multinational IT services company. Did I forget to mention that I also liked sketching? I saw opportunities in digital design and started my own design firm where I worked on over 40 projects. I joined the MIS course at Mays Business school as it helped me solidify my consulting, design and technical capabilities. I also took up a summer internship with Schlumberger as a UX Designer and learned a lot about the end to end UX process. I love travelling; I like experiencing new places and meeting people. This is what led me into the industry of creating experiences as a UI/UX Designer.
What does your normal day consist of?
I usually start my day with coffee and then go jogging. At work, I start by planning out my day. Once I’m home for the day, I usually play video games, read a few good articles and catch up with friends.
What’s your favorite part about being a designer?
My favorite part about being a UI/UX Designer is being able to turn ideas into reality and creating something which a lot of people can use.
What are your hobbies?
I love to sketch and listen to Bollywood music.
What is your personal mantra?
It’s never too late to start.
Where do you see the world of technology in 10 years?
I think Elon Musk would have created a trillion-dollar company selling flying electric cars and organizing space tours (exciting!). Augmented reality would be common place, and hopefully the world would be a better place!
Kirthan searched for a position where he could learn a lot, grow as a person, create high value outputs for clients and have a say in major design decisions. “I feel lucky to have found FrogSlayer. I love the independence and ownership on what I do and the wide range of project types I get to work on. Every day is a new day with lots to learn and I could not have picked a better place to grow.”
